The
Daytona Beach Area Association of REALTORS' Leadership Academy is
designed to help DBAAR members prepare themselves for taking a
leadership role in their local association. All
DBAAR members are eligible to apply, and the association pays for nearly
all of the expenses for the Academy curriculum, estimated to be nearly
$1,000 per academy participant.
Academy
participants are expected to complete the curriculum by the end of
December. A limited number of Academy
applications are accepted each year. Interested members are
encouraged to apply as quickly as possible.
What Is the Leadership Academy?
The DBAAR Leadership Academy is a one-year training and development
program structured around increased participation in and understanding
of the three levels of the REALTOR organization; increased community
involvement including state and local government; and increased exposure
to the local business community, all designed to develop future
association leaders. DBAAR has developed the program to identify
emerging leaders and to provide an opportunity to gain the institutional
knowledge needed for leadership positions within the REALTOR
organization and the community.
Who is Eligible?
All REALTOR members in good standing are eligible to
apply to the Leadership Development Committee. The Leadership
Development Committee recommends participants for the Academy, and the
Board of Directors may approve, modify, or reject the recommendations.
What is Required?
Participants must demonstrate a commitment to the Academy
by attending all of the sessions listed in the schedule. Graduation from
the Academy is contingent upon the Leadership Development Committees
approval once the participant completes the sessions listed in the
schedule. While most of the expenses are covered by DBAAR, participants
contribute some expenses such as mileage and time.
What's the Benefit to the Participant?
Participants will gain a clear understanding of the
organizational structure of all three levels of the REALTOR association
and the challenges of leadership. The Academy provides an opportunity to
ask direct questions, meet current REALTOR leaders and key community
influencers, and come to understand how the organization strives to
provide advantages to members in a changing marketplace. This will help
participants increase their knowledge of current REALTOR initiatives
and aid in finding their purpose in the organization. Leadership Academy
participants will have the opportunity to build relationships with other
leaders in the community, and increase their understanding of the
importance of political advocacy. Finally, participants will benefit
both personally and professionally through increased industry knowledge,
self confidence, and peer-to-peer business networking.
Does Graduating From the Leadership Academy Guarantee a
Leadership Position in the Association?
No. While Leadership Academy graduates are encouraged to
apply for leadership positions within the association, the process of
electing members to the officer positions, the Board of Directors, and
the Presidents appointment of committee chairs and vice chairs remains
the same.
What is the Application Process?
Candidates for the DBAAR Leadership Academy must complete an application
and submit it to the Leadership Development Committee. The committee
reviews the applications, and makes its recommendations to the Board of
Directors, which may approve, modify, or reject the recommendations.
How Are Participant Expenses Handled?
Participants are reimbursed for approved program
expenses, such as mileage or hotel charges. Registration and/or
membership fees are paid by DBAAR directly to the appropriate party on
behalf of the participant. |
