The Daytona Beach Area Association of REALTORS®

The REALTOR® Code of Ethics is the cornerstone of professionalism in real estate, guiding REALTORS® to serve clients, the public, and each other with honesty, integrity, and respect. Established by the National Association of REALTORS®, the Code of Ethics sets REALTORS® apart by holding them to the highest ethical standards in every aspect of their work.

Commitment to Integrity and Fairness

REALTORS® pledge to act in their clients’ best interests and conduct business transparently, creating trust in the real estate profession. The Code of Ethics ensures that REALTORS®:

  • Put Clients First: REALTORS® commit to putting their clients’ needs ahead of their own interests, providing expert advice, protecting client information, and advocating effectively on their behalf.
  • Conduct Business Honestly: REALTORS® are required to avoid misrepresentation, disclose all material facts, and communicate truthfully about property conditions, offers, and transactions.
  • Promote Fairness: The Code prohibits discrimination, requires REALTORS® to work cooperatively with other professionals, and encourages respectful treatment of all parties involved in a transaction.

Standards of Practice

The Code of Ethics consists of detailed Standards of Practice that outline specific ethical responsibilities across three core areas:

  • Duties to Clients and Customers: REALTORS® must provide diligent, informed service to clients, ensuring full disclosure, loyalty, and accountability in each transaction.
  • Duties to the Public: REALTORS® are required to uphold public trust by avoiding exaggeration or misrepresentation and ensuring that marketing practices are honest and clear.
  • Duties to Other REALTORS®: REALTORS® are expected to cooperate with other real estate professionals, respect their exclusive relationships with clients, and settle disputes professionally.

Ethics Training and Compliance

To ensure continuous adherence to these standards, all REALTORS® must complete regular Code of Ethics training. This training, mandated by the National Association of REALTORS®, reinforces knowledge of the ethical guidelines and highlights updates or changes to the Code. REALTORS® who violate the Code may face disciplinary action, including fines, additional training, or in serious cases, suspension or termination of membership.

Enforcement and Dispute Resolution

All local REALTOR® Associations have a Professional Standards Committee dedicated to upholding the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. This committee reviews complaints, conducts hearings, and enforces disciplinary measures when needed. REALTORS® and consumers alike are encouraged to report any ethical concerns to maintain a fair, trustworthy real estate community. By upholding the Code of Ethics, REALTORS® not only enhance their professionalism but also strengthen the public’s confidence in the real estate industry. The REALTOR® Code of Ethics represents a commitment to excellence, ensuring that every transaction is conducted with the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and integrity.
