As REALTORS®, we adhere to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism, fostering trust and transparency in every transaction. The Daytona Beach Area Association of REALTORS® provides guidelines, resources, and processes to ensure members meet these standards. This page outlines key aspects of REALTOR® ethics, including arbitration, mediation, and MLS rules.

Ethics

The foundation of the REALTOR® profession is the Code of Ethics, established by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). This code requires REALTORS® to conduct business with integrity, honesty, and respect for clients, the public, and other real estate professionals. It covers areas such as:

The Code of Ethics is a vital guide for all REALTORS® and is enforced through regular training and compliance checks. All alleged violations are reviewed through a formal process to maintain the profession's integrity.

Mediation

Mediation is a voluntary, non-binding process that aims to resolve disputes through discussion and compromise. A trained mediator assists both parties in reaching a mutually acceptable solution. Mediation is often a preferred first step before arbitration, as it promotes communication and allows both parties to find common ground without the formality of a hearing.

Mediation can be particularly effective for interpersonal or communication-related conflicts, helping REALTORS® and clients or other REALTORS® work through issues amicably. If mediation is unsuccessful, arbitration remains an option for resolving the dispute.

Arbitration

Arbitration is a process for resolving monetary disputes between REALTORS® or between a REALTOR® and a client. Rather than taking issues to court, arbitration allows for a fair, binding resolution overseen by the Association's Professional Standards Committee. Common cases that may require arbitration include commission disputes or contractual disagreements.

Arbitration provides a confidential and efficient way to handle conflicts, preserving relationships and minimizing disruptions to business. REALTORS® are encouraged to seek arbitration through the Association when disputes arise, as this process is both timely and impartial.
